Tonight we’re taking a closer look at India. The country – in fact, a sub-continent – is one of the world’s most diverse, with thousands of ethnic groups, speaking hundreds of tongues. Home to roughly one-sixth of the global population, India is now the world’s most populous country, recently leaving China behind. It’s also expected to become the world’s second-largest economy by 2050 and is on the fast track to becoming a space superpower. But behind the glossy facade and optimistic forecasting, religious and ethnic violence is on the rise and poverty remains widespread.

Joining us now to take a look at India’s obstacles on the path to development is Maj. Gen. Shashi B Asthana, an international strategic and military analyst.
