No CommentsWhile the underlying acrimony, historical baggage and differences gives rise to an adversarial/confrontational/volatile relationship/situation, the actual trigger which starts the shooting war could be a minor incident. The aptly named ‘Pig War’ in 1859 between the United States and Great Britain in Don Juan island, started over a slaughtered swine.

General[i]. In Part I, we examined the indicators which suggested that USA is in declining mode which is irreversible, and only the pace is uncertain. Majority who hold this view, take as a given that the US share of global economic output has been decreasing for last decade and that she has either already lost her status as the world’s largest economy to China or is fated to lose it within the next ten to 15 years.

General. Ironically, the 64 zillion dollar question answers itself (incidentally A zillion is a huge butnonspecific number), being a truism in today’s context that amongst many verticals, economic strength is the pivotalingredient of comprehensive national power (CNP). Especially after COVID 19, a large number of papers/articles/media discussions have emerged regarding the future status of USA.

Gordon Chang says ‘Xi, thinks everyone should acknowledge not only Chinese hegemony but also China’s rule,… China’s ruler has both the right and responsibility to rule Tianxia, or all under Heaven’! Does the world want to be in this Chinese hell? If not, it needs the QUAD. It is a global imperative.

On 3 April 1948, three years after the WWII ended, President Truman signed the Economic Recovery Act of 1948. It came to be known as the Marshall Plan, named after Secretary of State George Marshall, who, in 1947, proposed that the United States provide economic assistance to restore the economic infrastructure of post-war Europe.

The BRI envisaged infrastructure and construction projects at a mega scale — Railways, Highways, Ports, Energy Projects, and Industrial Estate Developments across 70 odd countries. The crown jewel being the CPEC. The Chinese ambitions are to displace the US from the top. Engage countries in bilateral economic partnerships. Deploy excess Chinese capital and capacity overseas to boost the economy. Chinese merchandise was to flow in outbound streams. Inbound traffic ensures food, energy, and resource securities for China. BRI consolidates Xi Jinping’s role in perpetuity in creating a Sinocentric world.
